This combination of intensity, class, and value is rare anywhere, but in Bordeaux it’s unheard of. 100pt winemaker Hubert de Boüard (Château Angélus) did something truly special with this 94pt Cellar Selection.
A youthful and bright deep ruby-purple in color. With a swirl, the wine shows vibrant, but not overpowering, aromas of red currants, warm plums, and blackberries, with undercurrents of cedar, violets, baking chocolate, pie spice, and a hint of truffle. The silken elegance on entry immediately recalls the softer, balanced touch of Margaux. Flavors of wild cherry, currant, pipe tobacco, and exotic spices are noticeably complex but elegant in their restraint, lingering long on the palate. An excellent value that will reward up to a decade and a half of maturation. Drink now - 2035.
