No winery is more renowned for Syrah than Guigal. Robert Parker called patriarch Marcel Guigal “this planet’s greatest winemaker,” and the house boasts over twenty 100-point wines. Their St.-Joseph displays the Guigal greatness, but for half the price of their Hermitage and a tenth of their famed “La Las.”
Shows a rich robe of deep purple. Vibrant aromas of blackberry, cherry, crushed violets, garrigue, charcuterie, and peppercorn blossom with a little air. Opulent but tightly constructed, there is a lot of muscle crammed onto its lean frame, supported by chewy, structured tannins. Full of black fruit flavor with underlying hints of fresh herbs and spice, leading to a peppery finish. Drink now–2027.
