It's hard to overstate just how difficult it is for an under-$20 Red Bordeaux to score in the 96th percentile of its category in Decanter’s annual World Wine Awards. The 2019 Château Moulin de Bernat earned a gold medal and 95 points—beating out 436 other mostly pricier entries—making it one of our Bordeaux steals of the year.
Dark ruby center with crimson overtones at the edge. The wine is warm and dark, with blackberry, soft plum, and black-currant flavors. It’s round and plush on the palate, with dark chocolate, graphite, upturned earth, and vanilla notes. The wine is harmonious and medium-plus in body, with a fantastic quality-to-price ratio, given the length of its finish and its polished edges. Fantastic effort. Drink now–2029.
