The 2020 Rubus Pinot Noir Reserve Russian River Valley from Fran Kysela, who Robert Parker has called “one of the finest palates and selectors of top wine,” is an absolutely phenomenal buy. Considering that Pinot Noirs from most neighboring vineyards start at $45 and up, drinking this wine at this price feels like getting away with something. It’s definitely in the running for our Pinot Noir case-buy of the year!
Deep plum color with a pink rim. A youthful and compacted nose of dark cherry juice, muddled strawberry, fruit leather, cola, and licorice. Dried and fresh florals combine with mixed-berry jam on the palate. Velvety smooth and silky, with bold Russian River fruit and a core of tilled damp earth and spice. The tannins are ripe yet powerful enough to carry the big fruit and rich body. The wine is balanced and harmonious, ready to drink now with a variety of food. An all-around crowd-pleaser. Drink now–2028.
